Inked Author Monthly Wrap-Up {{{APRIL 2024}}}

Hello There!

Welcome to my tiny, but cozy, corner of the world.

It’s so good to see you!

This month’s newsletter is for all things book-ish, nerd-ish, life-ish and whatever else may have popped into my head.

Stay Weird! 🤟🏼

Inky Updates

✏️ In Picture Book news, I am thrilled to be taking one of my more notably humorous characters and mapping out a series FULL of SWEATY antics. #IYKYK

✏️ I am steadily revising the first draft of my debut adult novel, THE SHOE ADDICT, and am very happy with its progress. It is a full-blown ROM-COM with some magic sprinkled in. My kinda book jam.

My local writers group, The Inklings, have been helping me shape this story, a handful of chapters at a time! We will be discussing Chapters 3&4 at our meeting next week!

My goal is to have the newest draft completed and ready for beta readers* by the end of the summer!

*If you are interested in being a beta reader, please let me know!

✏️ My Chapter Book series, THE MAGIC LEARNING LIBRARY, is steadily growing and evolving. Planning for a series has been quite an adventure! I am currently querying the first book, FLYING DRAGONS, and have discovered some interest…😉

I’m feeling very hopeful and excited for the series’ future.

I am truly looking forward to summer break, where I can relax my schedule a bit and focus a lot more on my writing.

Monthly Writing Tip 📝

Have ya’ll used the Hemingway Editor app yet?? If not, take some time this month to check it out. It’s a PHENOMENAL tool that helps me spot glaring errors as well as areas of weakness in my manuscripts.

You simply copy and paste sections of your MS right into the app, and it shows you: Word Count, Age Readability, plus it notices the usage of adverbs, passive voice, and hard to read sentences.

It truly is worth a try! (Let me know if you do!)

Check it out here:

✨ My very first author friend and CP, Suzanne Elson , has been killing it lately with her MG Horror Novel. And with being named as an HONORABLE MENTION for this year’s #KidsChoiceWritingContest, it is only a matter of time before the perfect agent scoops her up! Follow her here!

✨ My AMAZING CP, Stephanie Flom, won an Honorable Mention for her PB, LADY LIBERTY during the annual #PBParty. I am over the moon happy for the recognition of her amazing informational fiction story about the well-known monument. Follow her here!
