Hello There!
Welcome to my tiny, but cozy, corner of the world.
It’s so good to see you!
This month’s newsletter is for all things book-ish, nerd-ish, life-ish and whatever else may have popped into my head.
Stay Weird! 🤟🏼

✨ 🎄 12 Days of Christmas for Writers 🎄 ✨
Children's author Julie Hedlund, challenged participants of her 12 Days of Christmas for Writers series to share our SUCCESSES (rather than resolutions) this year. She believes the way New Year's resolutions are traditionally made come from a place of negativity - what DIDN'T get done or achieved in the previous year. Instead, she suggests we set goals for the New Year that BUILD on our achievements from the previous one.
I decided to participate in this Anti-Resolution Revolution!
Here is my list of SUCCESSES for 2024…
✨ Acquired a 3-Book publishing deal for my chapter book series, Library Guardians.
✨ Polished 3 picture book manuscripts and am ready to start submissions.
✨ Utilized my 12x12 PB Challenge Scholarship to improve my craft.
✨ Made a breakthrough with my novel, and began an outline for a second.
Stay tuned for how I will use these successes to build my goals for 2025!
Monthly Writing Tip 📝
🎧 Audio 🎧
Listen to your story being read aloud to you!
There are several ways to accomplish this, and I suggest you try them ALL, choosing a different option* from the list as you work through your revisions:
Use the talk-back feature on your chosen writing device. I typically write in WORD, and use the voice feature often. You can change the style of voice, and listen to it read aloud in various dialects too!
Have a trusted friend or family member read it aloud to you.
Read your manuscript out loud, with pizzazz, to yourself. Do all of this while looking in the mirror. It may seem strange at first, but weirdly, this method works really well.
Record yourself reading your story aloud, whether by audio only, or including video.
Ask a writer friend to record your story and send it back to you.
*For each option, have a freshly printed copy of your manuscript in front of you to take notes.
